About Creative Technology

The bachelor study Creative Technology is a broad university study that’s offered by the University of Twente. It’s often described as a combination of Industrial Design, Computer Science, and Electrical Engineering, but due to the broad nature every student develops their own skill set. There is a clear focus on human-centered design, and we’ve spent a lot of time studying different methods to perform user research.

One of the primary characteristics of Creative Technology is rapid prototyping. A large part of the curriculum consists of projects in which multiple students work together. A “Creative Technologist” is able to brainstorm, build and test an idea to waste as little time as possible. Buzz words that come to mind are rapid prototyping, iterative design and working lean

Below you’ll find some information about a couple of projects that I’ve worked on during my bachelor. At the bottom of the page you’ll find some more information about “Beehive”, a web application I’ve designed for a company called Menperium.

Creative Technology is a great place to just experiment, mess with wires, ideas, and LED lights. That is a lot of what we did. 😊

The Norwegian University of Science and Technology asked us to improve on their management platform. Our findings can be seen in the bevisst poster.

Beehive web application

Beehive is a web app designed through a collaboration in 2017 between a team of Creative Technology students at the University of Twente and Clemens Mensink, founder of the company Menperium. Beehive functions as a tool to make meetings more effective by fostering the 7 Habits framework outlined by Stephen Convey in his book “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” published in 1989. The result is a web app that can be utilized within the three stages of a meeting; before, during and after. Firstly, the user can keep track of meetings, plan meeting agendas, prioritize topics, assign action points to members and upload preparation files. Secondly, the user can take notes, keep track of allotted time and assign future action points. Lastly, after a meeting the user can evaluate the meeting through a survey and share the meeting notes.
